Damian Priest

The world-renowned professional wrestler universally recognized in the sports entertainment industry as Damian Priest entered the world under his legal birth name Luis Martinez. He was born on September 26, 1982, in the metropolitan center of New York City, located within the state of New York in the United States of America. Although he was born in New York City, he was primarily raised in the municipality of Dorado, Puerto Rico, during the foundational years of his youth. While living in Puerto Rico, his early upbringing was heavily influenced by his biological father, who was a martial artist and actively taught him the traditional Japanese martial art known as Goju-ryu karate. He eventually moved back to the mainland United States and decided to transition his physical skills into professional wrestling, officially beginning his intensive ring training at the Monster Factory wrestling school located in New Jersey. He reached a major milestone when he made his official professional wrestling match debut in the year 2004 under his real name on the local independent circuit. He went on to achieve regional prominence when he signed with the Ring of Honor promotion under the distinct ring name Punishment Martinez, where he officially won the Ring of Honor World Television Championship by defeating Silas Young at the Survival of the Fittest event in 2017. He also performed internationally in Japan due to the corporate partnership between Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, notably competing at the multi-promotional Honor Rising Japan event in the year 2017. World Wrestling Entertainment officially signed him to a developmental sports contract in October 2018, and he was immediately assigned to report to the NXT developmental brand. He made his official televised in-ring debut for World Wrestling Entertainment on the December 5, 2018, episode of NXT, where he competed under his real name Luis Martinez and suffered a loss against Matt Riddle. He reached another permanent milestone when he adopted the permanent ring name Damian Priest and made his first official televised appearance under this moniker on the June 19, 2019, episode of NXT, where he defeated his opponent Raul Mendoza. He captured his first official corporate title when he won the NXT North American Championship in a dramatic five-man ladder match at the NXT TakeOver XXX event on August 22, 2020. He officially advanced to the main roster when he made his official televised Royal Rumble match debut on January 31, 2021, entering the over-the-top-rope match at number fourteen and eliminating four superstars. He made his official Monday Night Raw televised singles debut on February 1, 2021, where he successfully defeated his opponent The Miz. He won his first main roster championship title when he defeated Sheamus to capture the United States Championship at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event on August 21, 2021. He further solidified his place in corporate history when he won the 2023 Men's Money in the Bank ladder match in London, England, on July 1, 2023. This victory directly allowed him to cash in his championship contract at WrestleMania XL on April 7, 2024, where he successfully defeated Drew McIntyre to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in his career. This historical triumph made him only the second Puerto Rican wrestler in history to hold a world heavyweight championship in the promotion.
